Description

Happy New Year!

Anyway, I've been working on this bad boy for months now, and I can safely say that this is my BEST ART EVER as of right now. :D
There are so many things that I tried out for the first time in this pic. The main experiment was the effort to not have line art. Look at it! Do you see a black outline like my other art? No? Great! Anyway, I like line art, but I've always admired pictures without lines. It has been my goal to try to do a picture without an outline.
Ok. Next new thing that I didn't intend, but did was multiple lighting. Now, you people should know that I'm not too keen on fancy lighting. Usually it's generic, because I'm still trying to grasp it. Since going line-less apparently wasn't hard enough, I ended up doing 3 1/2 light sources! (The moon, the soul, the energy blast, and Zango's eye) For once, I managed to get very close to what I imagined. :squee:
Final new thing I noticed was... Holy crud! I can't remember it now! No, really! I swear there was something else!
[EDIT: I recall now. It was shiny, metallic objects! Doing that is new to me too]

Ok. So, you people who watch me should notice that this and another thing with this picture will be posted at the same time. That's because this is the cover art for my short story "To Take a Life." Anyway, I have this bizarre notion that cover art must not have line art. This is why this pic is different. (I don't know. Is it just me? I feel like it's more book worthy that way.)

Here is the short story that the cover is for:
To Take a Life
Reno pulled the knife out and let the body fall to the ground. His hand and forearm glistened red under the moonlight. Now that he had done the deed, he needed to clean up before the Motaukeh arrived. The god-man was like clockwork. When someone was in trouble or killed, he'd show up. No matter what time, or where he came from, he would just appear.
Reno wiped off his blade, before bending down to carry the body. The silence was suddenly broken by a soft voice coming from behind.
     "W-why...?"
Reno whipped around, knife ready. A tall figure, holding a rod with an orb on the end, stood a few feet away. The orb was glowing like the moon. His head was down and his hat hid his eyes, but Reno knew who the figure was. It was the guardian from the village. The Motaukeh's lackey.
"Why?" This time his voice was less pleading and more accusatory.
     Reno shifted uncomfortably

What do you think about this new style? Personally, I love it, but it is very time consuming. I will leave for special occasions.

Although someone is dying in this picture, I figured it wasn't so bad, since there isn't any blood. (Hence, no mature tag)

About Zango:

Zango is one of two gods of Kotia. He is the opposite of Ixx in almost every way.

Breathing stars into existence, Zango created the planet and the solar system. Because of this, he is seen as the god of the night. Zango can be very zealous for worship of him. This causes him to become enraged at those who do not worship. His anger peeks when people chose to not believe in his existence. It is at that time, that Zango reveals himself and unleashes his fury. He is also a god of justice and governs without mercy. When tribes as a whole become complacent or accepting of immoral practices, he punishes them. His favored means of punishment is plagues. Of all his titles, Zango is most known as the god of death. This is because one of Zango's biggest roles is visiting the dying to snatch their souls away and take them to their appointed place. Because of his reputation, the Jicels worship him in the hopes that he will aid them in battle by taking the souls of their enemies.

Zango is often seen as the more powerful god, but despite this, Ixx is equal in power.

Although it is presumed he can, Zango never speaks in mortal tongues. He despises any sense of lowering himself to the level of mortals. This is probably why Zango seems to take pleasure in installing fear into the hearts of men. Even though Zango enjoys retrieving souls, he despises it when they die by evil means and it fuels his wrath.

Zango isn't fond of Luca, but understands the necessity of his existence.

I forgot to critique this one. Here we go!

I really enjoy the way Zango is being portrayed here, absolutely relishing the taking of a soul! I guess I can't really judge, if I could take souls like that I'd be cackling maniacally like Dr. Insano screaming, "I will take your soul... FOR SCIENCE!" But I digress.

I love the angle here, with Zango up above and his prey down below. Zango is large and towering over Reno and is quite intimidating, might I say? Also, I really like the background too with the moon and stars. I don't know, but Zango just has that tyrannical charm to him I can't help but love 'im!

Also, I apologize for this but I am an ink artist that works with a lot of lines so... I *am* disappointed by the lack of lines here and I just simply do not approve! I also feel as if his lower jaw comes off as a little shorter than intended, but I do like the design.
