Luca Intercepts a Daggertail sketch - 7/30/14

Description

Someone's seeing stars. :)
(Doth mine eyes deceive me? A full body sketch of Luca!? Woohoo!!)

Thanks to viewing a comission of Luca that MeisterBat is working on, I suddenly wanted to also draw Luca punching something. I'm sure it's quite evident that I don't have practice with action pictures. So, his arm is rather stiff (and long...).

This was done for fun, since if I was being a perfectionist, this picture would have been erased long before nearing completion. (I don't hate it, I just know there are some things off with it. Darn my inability to draw foreshortening!)

Anyway, this was fun, frustrating and challenging. Luca's look'n a little fluffier than usual. Also, trying to add a little realism to his feathers. Kotian feathers are actually very pliable, bending from the slightest bit of breeze. Not only are they flexible, but they also always bend back into shape immediately after resistance is removed.

I had to go back and reference an old picture for the Daggertail. I haven't memorized them yet, so I look to keep their design consistent. (I do this for all creatures and characters that I have drawn before, but not frequently. I can draw Laiten and Luca without a reference always. Tasha most of the time now, and Spritloo and Jestloo more often than not. Everyone else I double check on.)

Luca and the Daggertail belong to me. :iconjestloo:

I know that you clearly explained that this isn't your best work, but I do like it!!
I think it's because something is happening. There's an event taking place and some sort of story behind it. It's just interesting! Also interacting characters are always awesome ouo (i struggle with action shots too, bah)
Specifically I really like how you drew Luca's left arm. :3 His fingers and furry elbow look awesome, as odd as it is to say that! And I really like how you're working on drawing the feathers more flexibly! They certainly look less stiff here.
