I colored it in one day!! And it only took me about 2 - 2 1/2 hours!! (Was busy)
I experimented a little bit with blending the shadowing and lighting. I also added a lot more detail to the eyes. I'm very proud with how this came out.
I think I will be coloring more characters now, but without background. (Save those for more special pics. Plus, it's faster) If the background is white, that I'll fix it tomorrow.
The description below is the same as the sketch.
FANALLY!!! I managed to draw a Snowfoot! And, not just any Snowfoot, but Aaron!! I've had an artist block with him for over a year!! (Heheheh, he looks so different now...)
The Snowfoot tribe lives high up near the peaks of the mountain range. The only ones higher than them are there neighbors, the Daggertails. (Whom they must constantly keep vigilance) It also happens, that the Daggertail live in the mountain peaks over looking there settlement. The Daggertail are constantly attacking in an attempt to carry some back to their caves, where they devour them.
The Snowfoot aren't helpless. They are masters of ice magic. Snowfoot are most noted for their ice swords, which they flash freeze. No two swords are alike. As soon as they can stand, kittens are given wooden swords to practice with. Once they begin to learn ice magic, each Snowfoot comes up with and creates their own distict looking ice sword, which they will use for the rest of their lives. Making their own swords is an important stage in a young Snowfoot's life. Like a right of passage, it symbolizes teen-hood. The next stage is knighthood. (Which is Aaron's goal)
Snowfoot are one of the most organized, educated, and chivalrous tribes on Kotia. Every Snowfoot gets schooling in the Frozen Palace. Part of their studies includes mathematics, history, writing, magic, and intence training exercises. (Mostly with swords, but also other weapons)
Although there are seasons, there isn't a moment when there isn't any snow on the ground. During the winter months, Snowfoots grow bushier, especially around the chest and neck regions. They are mostly white with varying blue patterns.
They are classified as one of the "Good" tribes, and are in an alliance with several other tribes, including the Kotians.
One more note: The Snowfoot and Firetails HATE each other. (They are direct opposites, both culturally and magic wise)
Talked more about his tribe than Aaron, himself. Whatever, you guys had no idea who they were, so there.... Now you know.
I like his stance, it's like he's marching on through the snow ^^
I really like the Snowfoot (or would they be snowfeet if it's plural?) they're a very interesting tribe and probably one of my favorites so far. I really like the little smirk on his face, he looks so cute and fluffy =3
I'm not entirely sure about where the light source should be. I am a bit confused by the shading on the tip of the tail and the ears. But I really like how you make him so fluffy. I don't know, I just love the design.
I really imagined more of a bulky type though, like a Wampa from the Star Wars movies. Since they're from the mountains in the snow.
As an afterthought, I have to ask. As usual, there's expressiveness here. But, for the first time ever on your picture, I'm honestly stumped as to what he's doing. (Not anything about your drawing, my brain has been "on" for too long)
.........I think he's running......... Honestly not sure. It was the only successful pose that I could make of him. (After 3-4 other tries) I mainly just wanted to get him out! But yeah, running will do.
That is some great shading you've got going! It seems to be all in the right places. The coloring adds a lot of depth, really makes him "pop" out of the page! He's really coming alive here.
The only thing I'm looking at being slightly off is, believe it or not, the eyes. The iris has a nice shine to it, although I was going to say it almost looked like glass. But if they live in a snowy climate, the sun and snow shining around would probably enhance eye shines, so in my mind, it's passable. The only other thing is that I noticed the whites were shaded? It seemed a little odd, is all.
Back to good stuff - there's an interesting color scheme. I honestly hadn't expected such a deep blue around the eyes, but it does make sense, based on what you said, so no complaints. The light blue you have is a natural compliment to the rest of his fur. I still don't know if he's wearing mittens? (I know, I mentioned it yesterday, you said something yesterday, I forgot, and I'm too lazy to go back and check).
I like the fur - it's you style, and it works. I really like the details you put into the pom at the end of his tail. Now that I mention it, I wonder if it has practical application, or if it's there because he's a Snowfoot.
Lol! The eyes. I AM going for a "glassy" look. I always been wanting to color my eyes like that. As far as the shading in the white part goes....again, I was experimenting. I'll do something different next time.
The mittens...... Not sure, actually. I just alway drew him that way. (But most other Snowfoot have free fingers) I don't know what to make of it... Just an old design that I never changed.
Heeheehee! It's just there because he's a Snowfoot. (And I LOVE it)
Ah cool, glassy is what you were going for. Here I was thinking of a logical scientific explanation for why they'd be that way. I didn't consider "artist prerogative". It works, though.
I understand. Kind of like Mickey Mouse always has red pants with white buttons, even if he's wearing a tux.
